Xs Band

XS BaNd is a high energy Latin Band from Phoenix, AZ, formed in 2008. The band is notable for pioneering nu Tejano and cumbia genre and bringing it into the mainstream. XS (Excess) can be described as a condition of going beyond what is necessary to achieve something big. The band’s mantra was a page taken from the Beatles performing together as a band for over 10,000 hours before recording their first album.

Originally formed in 2008. XS Band’s current lineup features founding members Benny “The Jet” Rodriguez (lead vocals, guitar), Bob “Mr. Las Vegas” Islas (Keyboard, accordion), Vicente “the professor” Rodriguez (Guiro), Christina “la reina de accordion” Islas (Accordion), and Orlando “Skywalker” Rodriguez (Bass), with the addition of Lorenzo “Mayhem” Rodriguez (Drums) in 2010, replacing the band’s first drummer, Michael Cano.

XS Band’s debut album, The Next Step was released in 2009 propelled the group to new heights by establishing an underground audience of loyal fans. XS Band garnered national recognition by performing at The Tejano Music Awards Fan Fair in San Antonio, TX since 2010. The band’s mainstream success continued with Tiempos Alegres in 2011, followed by Celebrando la Vida in 2013.

The band is scheduled to release their fourth album in early January 2020. THE XS BAND has developed their career as songwriters, and performing artists. Their solo singles off their fourth album include “Soy Libre ” and “Juntos Por Siempre.”

The group was nominated for a Tejano Music Award in 2010 and 2014 in two categories and also made it on the Latin Grammy ballot twice which established the group as an up and coming Latin Regional Musical Act.

Leo Hernandez from La Prensa Hispana Newspaper based out of Arizona stated, “En lo artistico y lo musical tuvieron una destacada participacion y nadie pudo resitir a sus ritmos alegres.” Levi Collins formally from the Platters sang a song with the band at Casino Del Sol in Tucson, AZ and stated, “The XS Band’s music was real tight and their showmanship and stage presence was superior.” Bobby Lopez of the nationally syndicated Tejano Music Awards Radio Show stated, “ XS has that tinge of the “S
